TRENTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) — New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said Wednesday night that the state’s schoolchildren will have to make up the snow days they have missed in this unusually harsh winter.

On his radio call-in show Wednesday evening on TownSqure Media, Christie said his three school-age kids have lobbied him to waive the requirement so they won’t have to make up days this spring or summer.

“There’s a 180 days school requirement and I’m not waiving it,” he said.

Many districts across the state have had five or more snow days so far this school year.

Some school districts have shortened a recent winter break, while others have shortened spring break or extending the end of the school year.

And in Hillsdale, N.J., Pascack Valley High School has been experimenting with virtual school days, in which students work and receive lessons on laptops while being monitored by teachers.
